Profiles of Society President and Honorary Treasurer

George MacKenzieGeorge MacKenzie became the President of the Scottish Record Society in 2014. He has been a member of the Council of the Society for several years. Until his retirement in October 2012, he was Keeper of the Records of Scotland, a post he had held since January 2001. He was also Registrar General for Scotland and chief executive of National Records of Scotland, 2011-12. He is currently Chair of the Scottish Ancestral Tourism Group, supported by VisitScotland which works to improve the welcome for ancestral visitors and boost the economic impact of this key market.

When asked about the Society’s future, the President said, “The SRS has a long and distinguished pedigree in making record sources available to researchers and the public. The information age which we are now experiencing makes it even more important to provide authentic versions of records; it also gives us a range of exciting new technologies to do so. There is a great role for the Society as a record publisher in the 21st century.”

Rob MildrenRob Mildren has been appointed this year as Honorary Treasurer. He is currently head of the Public Services Branch in National Records of Scotland. Previously he was the Head of ICT in the National Archives of Scotland, where he worked for 20 years. He was also Director and Project Manager for SCAN (Scottish Archive Network). Originally from Cornwall, he now resides in West Lothian.
